Mobile tweet:
As the means of communication has been stopped as a way to help Egyptian residents communicate during what we all recognize to be indescribably complicated times, Googlers at the recently acquired Say Now collaborated with employees at Twitter over the weekend to quickly pull together an application that can convert a voice mail into a Tweet. They came up with a way that only requires land phones. The result ?
Anyone can tweet by simply leaving a voicemail on one of these international phone numbers (+16504194196 or +390662207294 or +97316199855) and the service will instantly tweet the message using the hash tag #Egypt. No Internet connection is required. People can listen to the messages by dialing the same phone numbers or going to twitter.com/speak2tweet.
While even phone service has been hard to come by in Egypt, the intent and spirit behind this collaborative team’s quick & rapid innovation is commendable. Needless to say – technological resourcefulness and innovation can help those in even the most challenged circumstances to communicate.
Google scientists worked all weekend to find a way for the people of Egypt to tweet in Twitter without using the internet.
People in Egypt can call any of these three phone numbers: +16504194196 or +390662207294 or +97316199855.
